April 10 & May 3 AMLD Board Meeting

Greetings Neighbors!

Summer is almost here, and we know how busy this season gets! With school winding down, vacations on the horizon, and everyone trying to enjoy the warmer days, it’s a lot to juggle. Still, it’s always inspiring to see how involved our community remains. Whether you’re pitching in, showing up, or staying in the loop—we’re so grateful.

Given the busy schedules all around, we had to reschedule our original May board meeting and convene a special session on a Saturday to address a pressing matter. Below is a summary of recent developments in our neighborhood.

April 10th Board Meeting

Citizen Communication

A resident graciously invited the board to attend a City of Austin Art in Public Places event featuring a seed pod installation.

Interim District Manager

Director Watford continues to serve as our Interim District Manager—her dedication is deeply appreciated. Director Hogle clarified the District Manager’s participation: she will act as a director except during the District Manager report and will abstain from voting when a conflict arises. Meanwhile, the Personnel Committee will be posting the job description for the permanent District Manager position.

Aquatics Supervisor

This has been a lengthy but essential process. After interviewing 26 applicants and narrowing it down to 4 final candidates, we’re expecting a final decision just in time for summer!

Facilities Committee Update

The Barracuda Swim Team has officially signed their contract and kicked off the season—we’re so excited to welcome them back! Go Cudas!

In other news, the committee is gearing up to conduct an facilities audit, much like the one completed by the Parks Committee earlier this year.

Parks Committee Update

Please join us in welcoming the newest member of the Parks Committee! She’s hit the ground running and is already a fantastic addition.

The committee is currently working on both short-term landscaping projects and exploring big-picture plans for parks and trails. Among the creative ideas discussed: Transforming the old tornado siren pole into a festive community Christmas tree—kind of like a mini Zilker Park moment!

Solid Waste Committee Update

The committee reviewed our current contract with Republic Services, which expires at the end of 2025. A recent community survey received 138 responses, showing that:

  • Residents are most satisfied with service consistency.

  • Top requests include weekly recycling, composting services, hazardous waste options, and large appliance pickup.

  • Price and weekly recycling ranked as the most important service priorities

  • Directors Watford and Mazur will be touring Republic Services facilities soon for further insight.

Community Engagement & Communication Committee Update

We’re pleased to welcome a new member to the Communication Committee—his background has already proven to be incredibly valuable to our work!

Currently, we’re evaluating our communication systems with a special focus on the Photo Contest. We encourage everyone to submit their entries this month for a chance to win exciting prizes.

Additionally, we’re evaluating ways to standardize AMLD branding to ensure consistency across all materials. Beginning in May, you’ll notice a new agenda format at meetings, designed to enhance clarity and streamline discussions.

Architectural Control Committee Update

We’re looking for residents interested in joining this committee! The team is updating processes to help streamline and modernize case tracking. If you’re passionate about community development, this could be a great opportunity to get involved.

District Manager Report

All directors will attend the upcoming CASE Conference, where Director Watford will speak on a panel about our pickleball journey.

  • Our long-time bookkeeper has submitted notice, and a search for a replacement is underway.

  • The Anderson Mill Pool is in need of a new gas heater—quotes are being collected.

  • Williamson County Elections has recommended ADA compliance updates for our facilities. Director Watford is gathering estimates and will report back

  • An AV expert has evaluated our board meeting room—we’re optimistic about improved sound quality soon.

Community Partnership

Director Watford and I are excited to be working on a plan to create in-district community partner benefits! Our goal is to establish a framework that ensures mutual value and consistency in all partnerships. Stay tuned for more updates!

May 3rd Board Meeting

Given the timing of our bookkeeper’s departure, we held a quick Saturday board meeting. District Manager Watford suggested a new bookkeeping firm known for its versatility and technology integration. The board approved the recommendation, though Watford abstained from the vote.
