May 13 AMLD Board Meeting

Greetings Neighbors!

We’re in the full swing of summer now, and I hope your days are filled with sunshine, fun, and a break from the usual pace. We had a long and productive May board meeting, and I’m here to share the highlights with you.

May 13 Board Meeting

Citizen Communication

A Texas Disposal Systems representative visited to introduce their services and expressed interest in working with AMLD.
An AMNA representative thanked the board for showing up to community events like the art exhibit and Open Pickleball.
Officer Frank Creasey (APD) gave an update on efforts to address the issue of unhoused individuals in our neighborhood.

Budget Review

We ended Q2 with a budget surplus of about $92,000. This was due to a mix of reduced expenses and higher-than-expected revenues. The board is reviewing how to responsibly allocate the surplus while staying aligned with our long-term goals.

Personnel Committee

We’re excited to welcome a new Aquatics Director who will be starting soon. This role will help improve programming and staffing across our aquatic facilities. We are temporarily holding off on hiring a District Manager until we first bring on new front desk personnel. This phased approach will help us better assess our staffing needs.

Solid Waste Committee

Directors Watford and Mazer reported on their tour of the Republic Services Landfill. They also shared feedback from the solid waste survey: residents prioritize pricing, followed by weekly recycling, bulk pickup, and composting. The committee will continue refining timelines before making any recommendations to go to an RFP.

Parks and Landscaping Committee

To help beat the summer heat, we’ve updated the Open Pickleball hours on Wednesdays! Join us a little earlier now—from 9 AM to noon instead of 10 AM to 1 PM.

Don’t forget, Thursday night pickleball from 7–10 PM is still going strong—come out and have fun!

Meanwhile, the committee is working closely with staff to check in on maintenance progress and get ready for some exciting landscaping updates.

Facilities, Operations & Safety Committee

The committee gave an update on tours of the Senior Center and Firehouse facilities. More site visits are planned in the coming weeks, and additional updates will be provided at the next meeting.

Community Engagement Committee

We had a great turnout at our Spring events, and it was heartwarming to see so many neighbors enjoying the activities together.

Looking ahead, we’re planning a fun 4th of July celebration at Harper Park from 10 AM to NOON. It’s free to attend and will feature activities for the whole family—come join the fun!

We’re also gathering feedback through a short event survey. One new idea we’re considering is hosting an adults-only event, and we’d love your thoughts.

Thank you to everyone who submitted photos to our first-ever Photo Contest! We’re still reviewing entries and will be announcing the winners soon—stay tuned!

Communications Committee

Are you receiving our newsletters? If not, we’d love for you to sign up! We’re always looking for better ways to connect and keep you informed about what’s happening in our district.

Architectural Control Committee

The ACC is working on improving how submissions are processed, tracked, and archived. They’ll be coordinating with staff to streamline the process and ensure better alignment moving forward.

Board Reports

Director Hogle encouraged board members to consider rotating committee assignments in the future. She also shared that she attended an Art in Public Places event and was approached about possible mosaic work in our district. Councilwoman Krista Laine (District 6) expressed interest in building mutual support between our board and her office. Director Hogle also proposed holding a community engagement forum to discuss strategic district priorities.

Director Watford shared that the staff is compiling a list of our community partners from recent years. She also suggested the board conduct policy reviews with legal counsel during strategic planning sessions this summer.

Director Mazer shared research on GovPilot, a facility management platform that can help track facility usage, ACC submissions, budget items, and more. Director Watford will follow up with the vendor for more information.

District Manager Report

Aquatics Update: Pool hours were shared, and the board discussed ways to adjust summer hours to meet community needs. Director Hogle requested that we revisit this topic with the new Aquatics Director for feedback and suggestions.

Tennis Pro Contract: The board reviewed the current tennis pro contract. The District Manager recommended aligning the agreement with our swim lesson model. Updates are in progress.
RRISD 5K: The DECA Club requested to host a 5K in North Park this fall. The board is reviewing the request before finalizing any rental details.
Senior Center: She shared that the Senior Center has a Code of Conduct currently in place, and staff are reviewing it with participants following a recent incident. She also recommended that the district consider adopting a general Code of Conduct to be applied consistently across all programs and facilities.
