December 11th AMLD Board Meeting
Greetings Neighbors!
I hope you had a lovely holiday season and are feeling refreshed as we start the New Year. I hope you were able to enjoy special moments with family, friends, and loved ones during the break. December was a full and productive month for the Board of Directors, and I truly appreciate everyone who stays engaged and informed. Below is a friendly recap of our December Board Meeting, highlighting key updates and ongoing projects around the district..
Citizen Comment
A representative from our new solid waste provider, Texas Disposal Systems (TDS), attended the meeting to provide an update on the transition. He shared how the changeover process has been going and addressed the status of service implementation within the district.
2024–2025 Annual Audit Report
A representative from McCall Gibson Swedlund Barfoot Ellis PLLC presented the District’s annual audit. The District received a modified opinion, which is the best audit opinion possible. The Board also approved using the firm again next year to complete the audit.
Finance
The Board reviewed the November cash disbursements. At the time of the December meeting, Williamson County had not yet updated the tax assessment report to reflect the new tax rate. Because of this, the Board decided to wait until the January meeting to reforecast the 2025–2026 budget. The investment policy was also reviewed and updated, including revisions to the broker/dealer list.
Solid Waste
We hope the transition from Republic Services to Texas Disposal Systems has been going smoothly for you and your family. We truly appreciate your patience during this change. You should have already received a letter from the District outlining the changes to solid waste service. For the most up-to-date information and service details, please visit the District website.
City Medians and Sign/Entrance Beautification Projects & Senior Center Renaming Proposal
Discussion on both of these agenda items were postponed due to the absence of a full Board. They are scheduled to be revisited at today’s meeting. We are excited about the potential improvements these projects could bring and look forward to thoughtful discussion and community input as they move ahead.
APD Crime-Free Multi-Housing Initiative
Officer Creasy and Officer Gabrielson shared information about the APD Crime-Free Multi-Housing Initiative. This voluntary program allows apartment communities to add an addendum to lease agreements stating residents will maintain a crime-free lifestyle. If a resident is arrested for committing a crime, the apartment complex may be able to evict them more quickly. Property owners must opt into the program, complete required training, and receive approval. Pecan Gardens is the first apartment community in Austin to participate.
